OP Stack Standard Bridge review

Canonical rollup bridge for OP Stack chains — deposits are messages to L2; withdrawals are proven, then finalised after the challenge period

Snapshot Updated Not enough data · 0/5 routes in 7 d

Key findings

The OP Stack Standard Bridge is the canonical bridge between Ethereum and OP Stack rollups such as OP Mainnet. It adds no third-party trust, charges no bridge fee, and withdrawals to Ethereum take 7 days because of the challenge period. L2Beat rates OP Mainnet Stage 1 but notes there is no exit window: upgrades approved by both the Optimism Foundation and the Security Council take effect without delay. Beware of fake bridges impersonating new OP Stack chains.

As of 3 Nov 2026, 11:35 UTC (run #540) our packet has no quotes attributed to OP Stack Standard Bridge, so there is not enough data for a price assessment. Real-money tests: none yet — planned after launch.

How does OP Stack Standard Bridge work?

To deposit, you approve the token (for ERC-20s) and call the Standard Bridge on Ethereum, which locks the token and sends a message; on L2 the bridge's finalizeBridgeERC20 verifies it and mints the bridged representation (Optimism docs).

To withdraw, you start on L2, prove the withdrawal on Ethereum, and finalise it after the challenge period; transfers from OP Mainnet to Ethereum complete in 7 days. L2Beat lists fraud proofs with a 3d 12h challenge period plus a 3d 12h execution delay (L2Beat).

Other OP Stack chains (e.g. Base) run the same bridge design but with their own governance; check each chain on L2Beat.

  • State validation

Fraud proofs secure withdrawals (3d 12h challenge + 3d 12h execution delay); L2Beat says OP Mainnet passes the walkaway test.

  • Upgrade authority

Both regular and emergency upgrades need approval from the Security Council and the Foundation, and there is no delay on regular upgrades, so users have no exit window. A Guardian multisig can pause withdrawals.

  • Fake bridges

In September 2026 scammers ran a fake “GIWA mainnet” — impersonating an unlaunched layer 2 — with an OP Stack-style bridge whose owners withdrew ≈ 766 ETH. Only use bridge links from the chain's official site or the Superchain registry.

What fees does OP Stack Standard Bridge charge?

Bridge fee
No bridge fee; you pay gas on both chains, and withdrawals need two Ethereum transactions (prove and finalise). Optimism

We only see OP Stack native routes through Socket (quotes paused pending an API key), so current prices may be missing; the 7-day withdrawal wait is not reflected in price.

How did its quotes perform in our data?

Has upswap tested it with real money?

Not yet. Real-money tests are planned after launch; no test wallets or transactions are published yet.

What are the pros and cons?

Pros

  • No trust beyond the rollup; Stage 1 per L2Beat.
  • No bridge fee.
  • Same design across OP Stack chains.

Cons

  • 7-day withdrawals, with prove and finalise steps.
  • No exit window for upgrades.
  • New OP Stack chains attract fake-bridge scams.

Who is OP Stack Standard Bridge for?

Best for large deposits into OP Stack chains and patient withdrawals; for fast exits, a fast bridge is usually used instead.

Has it been hacked?

The GIWA case was an impersonation, not a flaw in the Standard Bridge.
